Reservations made until December 1, 2023, will not be canceled. However, it is important to be cautious that the host does not cancel the reservation at the last moment, as this arrangement by Airbnb is not in compliance with the law. The New York City government emphasizes that the law will be effective from September 5, 2023, and not from December 1, 2023. To cover themselves, Airbnb specifies to the hosts: "We will accept all cancellation requests for stays scheduled from September 5, without penalties or impact on Superhost status." Therefore, a host who fears pressure from the New York City government can cancel at the last moment, leaving their guests in a difficult situation. I highly recommend exercising caution if you have a rental property that no longer meets the criteria set by the New York City government. The goal of the government is to make a strong impact! Reservations for short-term stays with an arrival date starting from December 2, 2023, will be canceled and fully refunded. It is also important to note that the rules of the New York City government apply to Airbnb and all other websites and agencies. Therefore, the same rules apply to everyone, regardless of the booking site.
